Proactive, much?

Yesterday I sat on my balcony with my special lady watching the rain fall, seeing the winds get heavy, and hearing rumors on the radio of pending tornadoes only a few miles away...and it hit me.......

Proactive!! Be proactive! In a world, post Katrina, post 9-11 why have we become..at best, reactive? This makes no sense to me. A man far more brilliant then I, Dr. Wayne Blanchard, in his white paper tittled: Principles of Emergency Management identifies a key trait of comprehensive emergency management: being proactive! Why do certain jurisdictions just sit by and wait for things to happen?

I may not have an answer, I have my assumptions, but see no point on doing that, rather I have a solution, such a simple, common sense solution: be proactive!!

If severe weather threatens-- Have one Emergency Management Official in the EOC or at the local firestation if needed

If you are in a flood prone area and the run starts- Pre- contact shelter options

Actively train and educate!

Sounds so cheap, sounds so simple, so people, let's do it!
